Add a fifth bedroom so each child has their own space, and create a dedicated home office freeing up valuable space in the existing family room.

Proposal

This family of six had outgrown their much-loved home but not wanting to move are in the process of extending to create the extra space they need. Having explored several ways of developing this beautiful period house, a single store rear extension consisting a double bedroom with ensuite, a home office, and additional kitchen space was chosen.

The extension links to the existing house through the kitchen creating a transition space with a picture window giving views directly out into the garden from a window seat. The home office, with dedicated work space for two, leads through into the double bedroom with ensuite. The vaulted ceiling adds to the sense of space and the carefully positioned windows and doors connect the bedroom to the garden.

The street facing walls are of brickwork, to reflect the original house and immediate context, whilst the garden facing walls are proposed as a charred timber cladding presenting a softer more modern aesthetic. Construction is due to complete in Autumn 2026.​
