Brief
Modest heritage style extension creating a bright multifunctional kitchen and dining area.
Proposal
This four bedroom period semi-detached house is on a tight site centrally located in Sherwood. The ground floor layout was as it was when the property was original built over 100 years ago offering isolated rooms with little natural light and disconnected from the sunny courtyard style garden.
The solution is to remove an existing dividing wall and connect the original dining room to a modest single storey extension with a glazed roof to flood the area with natural light. The space has been carefully designed to provide a larger kitchen, dining area, space for a dedicated work from home desk, and a ground floor toilet. Making the extra space work as hard as possible means less of the courtyard garden is lost, and the investment is optimised.
The exposed steel beams, exposed brickwork walls and loose fit kitchen units create a light industrial aesthetic, to compliment the original house. Work is due to complete by September 2026.
